“You will never walk along”這首歌,是我在去年(2024)退休後加入聖樂團所唱的第一首歌曲,並且隨著林老師在舊金山和洛杉磯兩地多次用這首歌曲在不同的聚會中見證神的榮耀。

Never Walk Alone
Walking Through Storms Together
“You Will Never Walk Alone” was the first song I sang after joining CCOLA following my retirement in 2024. Together with Maestro Lin, we sang this song in various gatherings across San Francisco and Los Angeles, bearing witness to God’s glory.
Looking back on my 37-year career in California, through seasons of illness and career transitions, God patiently taught me to move from relying solely on myself to trusting in His love and mighty power. He never gave up on me but waited faithfully for me to turn back to Him. Through many disappointments, He humbled my pride and taught me obedience to His leading.
God’s grace has always exceeded all that I could ask or imagine. Just as the song describes—when walking through storms, lift your head high and fear not the darkness, for beyond the tempest awaits sunlight, birdsong, and beauty. Even when our dreams are scattered by the wind and rain, we press on courageously, for God is forever with us. He will never leave us to face the unknown alone.
Serving Through Sacred Music
The Sacred Music Choir is only the second choir I’ve ever joined—the first being when I represented my elementary school in a provincial competition in Taiwan. So in many ways, I’m still a “newbie.”
Yet over the past year of singing and fellowshipping with Director Lin and the brothers and sisters in the choir, I’ve come to realize that we are more than just a choir. We are a fellowship belonging to God—a body entrusted with the Great Commission, using sacred music to sow seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of those who need Him.
Director Lin often reminds us that vocal technique is not the most important thing (a comforting truth for me!). What truly matters is understanding the lyrics, being moved by their message ourselves, and then singing from the heart so that others may also be touched. Through rehearsals and offerings in worship, I’ve learned to let go of myself, blend harmoniously with others, and together offer our best sound as a sacrifice of praise to God.
A Teacher Worthy of Honor
Maestro Lin is a teacher of great humor, making rehearsals enjoyable and pressure-free. With his wit and wisdom, he trains us musically while constantly reminding us to “take seriously God’s calling, obey His leading, and dedicate ourselves so that God receives all the glory.”
Every rehearsal seems to fly by too quickly, and though I often return home late at night, I always feel that what I’ve gained far outweighs the effort spent. I firmly believe that joining the Sacred Music Choir is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made—especially since I get to serve alongside my wife in music ministry. Truly, this is a precious blessing from God.
Before joining, I had only occasionally heard of Director Lin through church bulletins or concert programs. It wasn’t until I attended his Thanksgiving Concert last February that I finally met him in person. Just a month later, Brother Victor invited me to join the choir, and I soon had the opportunity to audition before Director Lin and begin a year of rehearsals and musical outreach.
What deeply moves me is Director Lin’s faithfulness—though now in his eighties, he always arrives early and stays late, leading us tirelessly through nearly two-hour rehearsals. Even when suffering from illness earlier this year, he continually prayed for the team traveling to Taiwan for mission work. Even now, every Tuesday night, he comes—still unwell—to lead us. He seeks no fame or reward; his heart’s desire is to fulfill God’s mission through music and evangelism.
May the Lord continue to strengthen Director Lin and Mrs. Yang with good health, renewed energy, and vibrant faith, that they may lead the Sacred Music Choir to keep running toward the heavenly goal—until the day our Lord returns.
Postscript
Since I joined the choir only after retirement, I am especially touched by those brothers and sisters who come to practice after a long day at work. I thank God for their dedication and love for this ministry.
